The 24 Hour Truth Challenge

kristen

It's really incredible...after reading about the truth challenge I was speaking on the phone to a friend and she asked if I wanted to get together this evening. I really didn't, I just need a night to myself. I started to tell a little white lie along the lines of "I'd love to, but..." and found myself just saying what I felt—that I needed the time alone.

Why do we feel the need to lie when we don't even need to? Telling the truth, most of the time, feels better.

I've definitely done this as well. Lies in this case are about not hurting someone's feelings, which doesn't make them "right," but you aren't purposely trying to harm the person. Quite the contrary! It's really hard to learn sometimes that it's okay to decline social activities or events just to have a night in, but I find with close friends, it pays off to be honest about it. At some point, everyone will have the same thought and you'll understand one another.
