Summer Resolutions

Summer Resolutions

Remember January 1st, when you were full of optimism about losing weight, finally writing that book or organizing your office? Well, six months have past and the last time you thought about a resolution might have been somewhere around January 4th.

You don't have to wait another six months to work toward your resolution—pick one now! Here are a few of the more popular resolutions you can start any time, and a few tips you can do today to get you started:

LOSING WEIGHT:
Just Move!
Exercise is almost more important than changing your diet, since your body needs something to do to burn off those calories. Summer is the easiest time to do this, since exercise is naturally built into any sunny day activities you may be planning. Walk around the block three times, go swimming with your kids or bust out those old roller-skates and tour the neighborhood.
Drink Water
Thirst signals are often misinterpreted as hunger signals by your body. Drink at least eight glass of water a day, and more if you're active.
Remind Yourself Why You Want to Lose Weight
This personal motivation is more important than what particular diet or exercise program you are using to lose weight. This is your all-important motivation that will inspire you to continue on your weight loss journey well through the summer.

GETTING ORGANIZED:
Let Someone Help You
Call a friend. Agree to spend two hours helping your friend get organized if he or she, in return, will spend two hours in your place. Entice your friend further with an offer to make lunch.
Get Rid of Five Items
Walk through your home or your office and find five things you don't need. Donate those items to the Salvation Army or give them to a friend who will put those items to better use.

PURSUING A DREAM:
Create an Elevator Pitch
Formulate a short description of your dream (it shouldn't take more than 30 seconds to a minute to explain it), and pitch your dream to yourself in your mind or to a supportive, trustworthy friend. This will help you find a way to articulate your dream, and defining it will help you chart a course to achieving it.
Do Some Research
The world is at your fingertips. Research your dream online—go to Google and pop your dream in and see who else has done it, go to Amazon and see if there are any useful books on your dream, and ask you friends if they know anyone who has pursued a similar dream and succeeded.
Make a Realistic Plan
Often we overestimate how much change we can achieve in a day or a week. Don't rush yourself! Big change is a result of thousands of smaller changes. Go slow, give yourself achievable mini-goals and you'll make it in no time.

We want to hear from you! What is your summer resolution, and how will you achieve it?
