School Loses 300 lbs.

The weight-loss success story of the day comes from Whitko Middle School in Larwill, IN, where 22 teachers and staff members banded together to lose weight. Over the course of six months, the participants lost a total of 300 pounds by eating sensibly, exercising moderately and…here’s the key…supporting each other.

The effort "was one of the most supportive things that I have ever seen the staff of Whitko Middle School do," one Whitko secretary told USA Today. She lost 28 lbs. during that time period. "Whenever you have people around you doing the same thing, it's a lot easier."

Mark Hyman, M.D., author of The UltraSimple Diet, told First30Days that the key to losing weight over the long term is securing this extra support when you need it. If you’re looking to jump-start your weight-loss journey, or if you just need a little nudge, try to line up some support for you endeavor. Whether it’s friends, family, or strangers at a weight-loss meeting, losing weight doesn’t have to be a lonely battle. [USA Today]
