Question:Will you see the movie Religulous?

Bill Maher (comedian, commentator and avowed atheist) has a new "documentary" out called Religulous that looks at Christianity, Islam and Judaism. Maher sets out to interview the faithful and make them look a little silly for believing in what he feels is completely irrational.

As a Christian, I recognize that not everyone shares my beliefs, but I don't openly mock them for it. Why is it fair for Maher to openly mock people of any faith? I'm not saying he doesn't have a right to question, and decide for himself that not believing is his belief system—but does this film do anything to help foster understanding of an individual's spiritual life? Does it draw us any closer to being united in our differences instead of divided by them?

I doubt I'd spend the $$ to go see it—not because I disagree with Maher, but because it just doesn't seem like a good use of time or money. You?

Considering how many wars have started over religious intolerance, I think he's doing all the peoples of the world a disservice.

I'm SO excited to see this movie (if for nothing other than the director of Borat made it). I'm not sure Maher is really making fun of religion and morals as he is pointing out that taking a strictly literal interpretation of these teachings is a little dangerous. Take Scientology for example. These people literally think that aliens flew down from space and are living inside our bodies. Is there anything wrong with challenging them on this belief? Where's the proof? If the Bible says the earth is only 5,000 years old, but dinosaur bones and radiological testing proves that its been here for millions of years, is it rational for people to still say that it's only 5,000 years old?

In the movie Maher is quoted asking, "Why is believing things without evidence good?" I think that's a simple question and it more than merits some examination. I'll definitely see this movie, if for nothing other than being more prepared if there's ever a debate!!
