The Financial Times explains how reducing your spending increases the money you have in your pocket immediately, and Uncle Sam doesn’t get involved like with a boost in your paycheck. If you can find $100 a month (the gym membership you never use, dropping a tier on your cable plan, bringing your lunch to work) that’s like giving yourself a $1200 a year raise!
