Care Package—looking for help!

AnnieChance

So following up on my friend who just lost her sister. She lives very far away from me, so I came up with the idea of sending my friend a care package to comfort her until she comes back around for the holidays. I decided to put in a few things for her, like a rosary I picked up on a recent trip, a picture frame with a picture of her and her sister, some food (she emailed me recently and said she literally can't even eat) and maybe some candles.

I wanted to see if anyone out there had any other ideas of things to include in the care package. I'm taking suggestions.

Thanks!

The touchstone idea is a good one. When I lost my only child, I had one sent to me that simply said "hope". I carry it with me everyday......even after 5 years.

This is a wonderful gesture! Sorry I'm late to the game here, but my suggestion would be to include some hot chocolate with a nice mug and a journal where she can record her thoughts. There's nothing like being able to curl with with a mug of hot chocolate and pour your thoughts into a journal. It's very soothing and cleansing! I hope your friend is doing well and has made it through the holidays!

Maybe a poem that you can copy onto a nice sheet of paper?

It's wonderful to want to help at this time. Support is so important and just to let the person know you're there for them (in spirit, at the other end of the phone, email) and that you're thinking of them.

A little book might be a nice idea, something with uplifting sayings or affirmations. I love the idea of a rosary, or some little "touchstone" she can hold to give her strength, remind her that people are thinking of her and sending love.

If you can get in touch with people who are nearby and see if you can get someone to look in on her, run errands if necessary.

I don't know how you feel about mass cards or the idea of having a mass said. Some people are comforted by that gesture. Much love to you and your friend and her sister who is surely in heaven.

That's such a kind thing to do. I'm certain that the thing she'll remember most is your thoughtfulness. Maybe a memory book or journal, where you've shared some thoughts or memories of her sister that she can also fill in when the worst of the grief has faded and she can remember the good times.

Maybe a nice pair of slippers or a soft cashmere wrap or throw too?
