Be a Tortoise, Not a Hare

Remember the saying "Slow and steady wins the race?" Turns out it's true. Slow down at work, with your partner and just in general. You may be surprised at how much sweeter life is when you aren't looking at it at warp speed.

Answer:

I rewash zip lock bags and reuse them. Get the best ones so they will hold up. I use vinegar, baking soda, borax and lemon juice for almost all my cleaning. I have a worm box where I put most of my kitchen refuse. They eat alot and produce great compost. Info avail on line. I have located all the sites in my area for recycling used appliances, batteries, paint etc and gather up stuff from my neighbors once a month to make sure they don't go to the landfill. I use cloth napkins and wash them. I wash clothes in cold water, partially dry then hang on clothesline. We all have our own plastic refillable water bottles. WHEW>>that's enough!!

Answer:

I use a coffee cup at work instead of the styrofoam ones they have here. I just bought canvas bags for groceries. I now have a clothesline and will use it this summer. We replaced a few bulbs with compact fluourescents lately. I also try to buy refills instead of buying new plastic bottles of fabric softener, etc. My newest accomplishment is using a plastic cup at work for water from the water fountain instead of buying bottled water constantly.

Answer:

I bought an EnergyStar washer and I use a clothesline to dry all my clothes. I bring a canvas bag to the grocery store. I work from home and drive a small car. I buy local and organic whenever it's available. I eat meat rarely. I use only green products to clean my house and to do my laundry. I reuse my plastic water bottles, but I'm thinking about replacing them with glass. I bring a reusable plastic cup with me to the coffee house for my to go lattes. I use compact fluorescents. I had no children.

It feels like a lot and yet there's so much more that can be done.

Every time I add something new, it becomes easier to add another thing.
