Broadway Lights Up Green

Broadway Lights Up Green

Celebrities have long been on the green bandwagon, with their eco-friendly homes, environmental causes and lists of endorsements. Broadway has, for the most part, been in the dark...until now! Broadway institutions in New York are meeting about going green and what they can do to affect some environmentally-sound change.

David Stone, a Broadway producer for "Wicked," felt motivated to do something after watching “An Inconvenient Truth.” He is currently helping out the New York Restoration Project with urban gardening uptown, and he's partnering with the National Resources Defense Council to discuss how shows can go green. The "Wicked" staff has already vowed to do more correspondence and advertising by digital, instead of paper, means. In regards to the bright, shiny lights associated with Broadway, stagehands will be working with more eco-friendly light bulbs and using smarter timers.

Do green issues affect the cultural and entertainment decisions you make? If you are traveling and splurging on fun activities, do you take environmental concerns into consideration? [Ecorazzi]
