Remember the saying "Slow and steady wins the race?" Turns out it's true. Slow down at work, with your partner and just in general. You may be surprised at how much sweeter life is when you aren't looking at it at warp speed.

Skip the soda (the calories and the bloat)

letitgo

I recently gave up drinking soda and while I miss it (I've been a coca cola devotee all my life), I don't miss the bloat. I haven't lost weight as a result, but it's easier to close my pants!

So much has been written lately about the negative aspects of soda—both diet and regular. Besides empty calories you could be consuming harmful chemicals.

I rarely if ever have soda. I use to drink Diet Pepsi all the time when I was in my 30's and 40's, but I think I had some kind of can fetish. I could not get into my car with a can in the cup holder. I have always loved ice tea, and although I grew up on sweet tea, I now drink Crystal light. I also make sun tea and drink all sorts of herbal teas. If you miss the carbanation, try putting some club soda into one of your juices or tea.

Soda is bad because it is full of sugar and has a high caloric content. Also, the darker colas contain phosphorus. When phosphorus is consumed in excess it can deplete calcium absorption and lead to brittle bones. Its best to stick with water, teas and fruit juices. I eliminated sodas from my diet about 6 months ago and I do not miss it at all.
