Remember the saying "Slow and steady wins the race?" Turns out it's true. Slow down at work, with your partner and just in general. You may be surprised at how much sweeter life is when you aren't looking at it at warp speed.

Question:How do you get motivated?

I have two kids and I work 40 hours a week..my husband works out of state. I have very little time to myself and I always have the kids. By the time I get home and have dinner and home work done All i want to do is sit and not move...How do I get more motivated to do something.

Hey there, I am a guy, no kids, but I have a few ideas. I think you need to focuss on the why it is important for you to schedule time to work out. If you are feeling more healthy, and fit you will have more energy for yourself and your family. I would write down why it is important for you to work out and it will happen for you. Then make it fun, maybe have a sitting bike in your living room where you can do 30min work out and watch your kids, join other mums at a gym and strategise on who your kids can be looked after. You work out best when you have a big enought why and a support crew. Also maybe register for something like a half marathon, that will get you up running in the morning knowing you have to run 13miles in 3 mths time! Rockon

Can you get your kids to do something with you? I don't know how old they are but maybe family time can be exercise time? You can take a walk after dinner, play a game of tag in the yard, etc. You can also build exercise into your day. A ten minute walk at lunch or parking your car farther away from the office or store and walking will get you moving.
Keep some hand weights at home and get some exercise in during commercials of your favorite shows. Everyone has to start somewhere...you can do it!

You sure do have a packed schedule! I don't doubt that it is tough for you to get motivated after such a long day. Have you tried doing just a few, small exercises while watching TV? For example, leg lifts, push ups, jumping jacks and sit ups during commercials can get your heart pumping while still enjoying a guilty pleasure. Another tip: Try not to have an all-or-nothing approach. Sometimes we tend to think that if we cannot devote 45 minutes to exercise, then it just is not worth it. But one thing is for sure -- even ten minutes is better than nothing!

Wow, I admire you for doing so much already! If you're too tired by the end of the day, have you thought about waking up a little earlier and carving out those early morning moments for yourself? Make a weekly plan of personal accomplishments you would like to achieve and then stick to your new schedule. Also, I've found that keeping the TV off is always the quickest way to motivate me off the couch after a long day of work. Good luck!
