Has anyone read any books that they have found helpful in dealing with a traumatic divorce?

More Details:

I am single with no children (I am SO thankful I did not expose any children to this man's abuse and cruelty!!) But I did not want a divorce I wanted him to get help and for the abuse to stop. (He moved us to a part of the country we knew no one, abandonded me and then served me divorce papers.)He was wonderful before we got married, yes he really was. I have some spinal damage from an injury I experienced at work and I can't work. He could not do enough or be more helpful, before we got married. he had me fooled. I had never been in, or exposed to, this kind of hostility before in my life and I am learning a lot. I found several books to be helpful with learning about the hostility and abuse- I wish I'd had them years ago. But I don't know of any books that might be of help with dealing with a traumatic divorce. I need some encouragment, some guidance, some information.

The first lawyer I had was horrible. She gave incorrect information to the judge , wouldn'r defend against crap he had told his lawyer(I found out a friend of hers) to say during the hearing, and even agreed to things with my husband's lawyer AFTER I fired her!!- I'm looking for another.

I wish I could suggest a book that could help you out. What I want to let you know is that I feel so sad for you that you have been through so much. I share your pain. I am in an abusive marraige I want a divorce badly, I want out but he will not allow me any way out, I am not allowed to have any money of my own. Keep positive and happy that you are out of that unhealthy relationship. Hire a new attorney (ask the new one if they are friends with his attorney point blank) Get alimony as much as you can! and go on to have a most fabulous life...You deserve it! all my best wishes.

You might want to check out some of the books in the resources section on this site. I just saw one that caught my eye:

What Every Woman Should Know about Divorce and Custody
By Gayle Rosenwald Smith
Judges, lawyers and therapists share winning strategies on how to keep the kids, the cash and your sanity. The book is designed for women at every stage of divorce.
