"Ever since I subscribed to your site the daily reminders are the only thing I read apart from email and the NY Times headlines and weather. I am hugely critical of most self-help information, but this is not what your site is. I save 1 in 2 of these and have kept a library folder. They are intelligent, concise, relevant and are pitched at exactly the right level." -Martin Chalk, CEO, Balance Water

The Unsettled Settlement

The Unsettled Settlement

As usual, tabloids are falling all over each other to be the first to break the news on one of the biggest divorce settlements of the century: Madonna vs. Guy Ritchie. Rumors were flying this weekend that the couple had reached an agreement with Ritchie getting a hefty $60 million plus the properties in Europe. The celebrity duo was estimated at $525 million, with the bulk of that sum belonging to Madonna. Ritchie's esimated worth is around $35 million.

However, Madonna’s publicist said Monday that the couple’s divorce settlement has not been finalized yet. In addition, no decisions have been reached regarding custody of the couple’s children. Madonna has a daughter, Lourdes, from a previous relationship, and the couple shares a biological son, Rocco, and David Banda, their adopted son from Malawi.

The stars did not establish a prenuptial agreement before they wed in 2000. While it’s understandable for those of us not raking in millions of dollars a year to worry about a prenuptial agreement, once you hit a certain income, it seems only natural to protect your assets. This becomes especially true if there’s as large of a disparity as what is between Madonna and Guy.

What are your thoughts on prenuptial agreements? Should Madonna and Guy have known better than to think it would last? [The Associated Press]

If I'm ever making enough money where a pre-nup is necessary, I will gladly sign one.
