Anti-Anxiety

Some singles are worried online dating will make them seem desperate. These days, someone would sooner raise an eyebrow if you’re single and NOT dating online. Many sites allow you to hide your profile to anyone who’s not a member. So, if you are a bit shy about others knowing you’re online, they probably won’t find out unless they’re also a member of the same site.

Take the pressure off by confiding in someone. Bring a trusted friend into the loop. You can do it with a quick phone chat or over coffee. Some people even like their best friend to come over and review their profile.

Telling your family might seem more challenging, especially if your parents aren’t internet savvy in the first place. You may choose to hold off until you’ve met someone. Introduce the idea of that person and if you’re asked how you met, be straightforward but casual.

In any case, when and whom you tell is your choice, but in general the more relaxed you are about your online search for love, the more relaxed others will be as well.
