My first reaction was, "Heck NO! " I live Westchester county, NY, right between Scarsdale, NY and Greenwich, CT, two of the greatest concentrations of wealth and power on the planet. I've seen, and helped build, many mansions. You really have to see them at night, all lit up, to appreciate just how much space they occupy. Space which is illuminated, heated, cooled. Many, many cubic feet of space. No matter how efficiently it is done, it's VERY expensive. And these places are empty most of the time, excepting the hired help.
But I really am trying to change, so Mr. Smartypants here went to the referenced blog, and a half dozen others, and couldn't find a successful argument in favor of mcmansions. One Aussie architect called them an example of "housing obesity". In Seattle,USA, they provoked a "fiery" reaction (arson). It has been a month since your post and, it seems to me, that info on the web gets shuffled as quickly as cards in Vegas so I easily could have missed what caught your attention. Cuold you, or anyone, direct me to a compelling argument in favor of mcmansions?
