Walking the Green Walk

Walking the Green Walk

As our dear friend Kermit lamented, it's not easy being green—even for celebrities. Some of your favorite eco-conscious celebs aren't perfect when it comes to full-time tree hugging. While Brad Pitt may be helping build sustainable housing in New Orleans, he and his brood have traveled the world ten times over on private jets, which creates an enormous carbon footprint; Paul McCartney had his hybrid Lexus flown from Japan to England, completely negating all of the extra miles he would have saved; and Mary Kate Olsen, who recently hosted an environmental benefit, has been photographed many times wearing fur coats. PETA reports that it takes up to 60% more energy to produce fur than synthetic material.

Even if all celebrities were like Woody Harrelson and wore hemp suits while driving their biodiesel cars, you have to keep in mind that the images that appear on television and in the tabloids only provide half the story. Its easy to get in the habit of thinking you can't compete, but nobody's perfect. Not even Brad Pitt (As a physical specimen, maybe, but he is human. We think.) Remember that no one, not even you, can change the world in one day. As our green living experts remind us, "don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good." Do what you can each day to commit to a green lifestyle, and don't worry if you can't do it all!
