Dressing to Land a Job

Dressing to Land a Job

Finding the perfect outfit in the morning can sometimes feel like a chore, and maybe a slightly superficial one at that. Does it really matter? Well, if it means the difference between landing a job and not, then yeah, it does! Job interviews are all about first impressions, and while your resume can speak volumes about who you are, so can your clothes.

Amy Gonzalez reflected positively on a recent interview for a teaching position, but later found out she didn’t get the job. Upon further reflection, and a nudge from a friend, she realized that perhaps her Forever 21 clothes aren’t giving off the most professional vibe.

With the job market becoming more competitive, little changes to your look can give you that extra boost you need to stand out on interview day. Know the company, business or workplace you are applying to, and try to match the environment. For instance, if you are interviewing at a bank, dress conservatively as opposed to how you may dress if going to a start-up web company.
