Fly Like an Eagle

Fly Like an Eagle

Does a bird think about it before taking flight? No. He just feels an impulse inside his little bird brain: “There’s that cute bird from the shrubbery—now’s your chance!” or “Skewer that field mouse—I’m starving!” Basically his actions are spontaneous.

If you’ve been feeling a little itchy or tied-down lately, try being a bit more bird-like. Give yourself permission to take spontaneous flight. Hop in the car or on a plane, (or take a bus, or boat or train) and spend some time somewhere, anywhere, as long as it’s away from home.

Don't have a job? Even better—you won’t have to take time off. No money? Take the car and stay with a friend. Or find some friends to travel with and share expenses. Where there’s a will, there’s always a way.

A change of scenery is just the thing for gaining a brand new perspective.

I read somewhere that we should stop and think about what we use to love as a child or young teen, etc. Then act on it. If it was riding a bike, go for it. Mine was reading. I remember climbing up a tree and sitting in the branch with a good book until Mom would yell at me to come down for bed.......that was my passion. I decided to start reading again. Not just a magazine article or two, novels that I had wanted to read for a long time and thought I didn't have the time. I made the time and that was my escape from the everyday hum drum........Yes, where there is a will, there is a way.

I was laid off in November - saved a bit of severance money and took the first personal vacation (ALONE) that I've had in years, to San Diego for a week to visit friends and family. Weather was terrific, did some networking, and saw the most amazing sunset of my entire life. Came home totally energized and spiritually renewed. Hit the road!

I love the idea of just going after something without thinking about all the reasons why not. Thinking about thinking like a bird made me giggle. It feels playful, like I'd like my life to be. I'm going to take flight. The circumstances are what they are, I have only this moment to take advantage of. Tweet, tweet!
