Give Trash a Second Chance

Hey, you finally cleaned out your closet. Hoist the flag. So what’s with the trash bags? You aren’t seriously going to throw all that stuff away, are you?

The average American tosses about 68 pounds of used clothing and rags each year—as in, good-bye, see ya later, hope your landfill has good schools. Many of these items could be used by someone else, but it’s too much effort to pass them on. There’s no time. Can’t you see I’m busy getting organized?

Make the extra effort to donate your stuff to local churches, shelters, Goodwill, the Salvation Army or some other charity. If you don’t know where to start, go to Charityguide.org. You’ll feel good about your closet AND you’ll be helping people in need.

While you’re at it, check out Freecycle.org, a non-profit organization that facilitates giving (or getting) stuff for free in your own town.
