Question:I can't dump my truck!

I'm a total treehugger, make sure to never leave lights on in my house and I always buy organic. However, the one thing I can't bring myself to do is get a hybrid vehicle!I've had my Ford F-150 for years now and it's time for me to get something new, but despite the high gas prices I just don't think I could drive anything else. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could do do offset my gas guzzling habit?

Answer:

We bought a fuel efficient car about a year and a half ago and kept our truck for hauling purposes. Depending on it's maintenance and storage costs it might be worth hanging onto.

You could always make the move to a compact pick-em-up. The 4-banger Ranger gets decent mileage, but it's a little long in the tooth - hasn't been redesigned since the Reagan Administration. The Chevy Colorado w/the 5-banger motor is a nifty little ride...

Answer:

Can't, or won't? Even if you don't get a hybrid, there are tons of cars out there with better gas mileage! Does this truck have some sort of special meaning to you, or are you just resisting change?

OK, I'm off my soapbox. Remember the wise words of our expert, Axil Comras (Link, who says in his interview that you "can't let the perfect be the enemy of the good." Do what you can, when you can. Drive less, walk or bike more. Keep doing all the great stuff you are doing. It does make a difference!

Answer:

Well, you could drive less. But, seriously, if you're making changes in other areas and feel you're doing all that you reasonably can, then maybe you need to cut yourself some slack and not worry (too much) about the truck.
