Question:My boyfriend of a year and I decided to break up so he can "find what makes him happy and figure out who he is" by himself. He wants to remain friends and build our friendship while he does this. Is this a good idea, since we still love each other?

After he moved back in with his dad, his personality changed dramatically. We started arguing a lot more once this happened. Hence the reason we decided to put our relationship on hold.
His relationship with his dad is rocky, his dad is addicted to perscirption drugs. Its the house he grew up in and where his parents divorced. So theres a lot of bad memories in that house.
He's taking 6 months off to go on a road trip by himself in April in order to "find himself".
Since our breakup in December, we've only talked through emails daily, because we want to take things slow before hanging out again.
His emails seem flirtatious, and he questions who i'm hanging out with.
I'm just confused with him. I don't understand if this breakup was necessary. I'm trying my best to give him his space.
