Moving and not thrilled

Hi there,

I’m so glad you put up the share a story section. I’m currently moving from my current apartment to a smaller apartment two towns over. I’m doing it partly so my spouse can go back to school and partly because we can’t afford the increase in rent that our landlord would impose.

I’m sort of excited to move, because it will be something different, but I’m so anxious about it and it’s not happening for a little while. The place will be much smaller, it’s in a TOTALLY different neighborhood with a lot of shops and restaurants that I would never frequent, and it’s very far away from the main city where I work and play.

In my head I know that it’s good. I’m helping my spouse take a chance at going back to school and going in a new direction in life, but I can’t help but feel anxious and irritated by the move. I was so happy in my apartment with my little backyard and a dishwasher and my own thermostat (luxuries in my neighborhood)..that i’m slightly resentful of the fact that we have to go.

Anyhow, I know this doesn’t compare to some people who are dealing with depression or dealing with a loss, but it’s what I’m going through now and what’s giving me the most agida. Any thoughts or advice are welcomed.

  • Cwolf112: It sounds like we are going through the same thing (see my story). I feel your pain!
It is so tough to leave behind all of the places and spaces you know. We become so accustomed to our “little backyard,” and favorite coffee shops, restaurants or stores. We create a mini world and which we exist, and when it is uprooted it feels so harsh. Even if you know it is, ultimately, for the best.
I don’t have much advice, seeing as how I am experiencing the same thing. But I hope it helps to know that you are not alone and your fears are not trivial. It’s what you are experiencing right now, and, therefore, it is HUGE in your life.
    I wish you much luck.
