A Baby Story

Did you hear the one about the girl who gave birth at home and then walked to the hospital?

Seventeen-year-old Xochitl Parra did just that over the weekend. The baby came quickly, and she gave birth in her home. As it was early in the morning, she wrapped him up—still attached to her via umbilical cord—and walked the short four blocks to the hospital.

She’s lucky that she and the baby are OK, and that her family has been supportive of what was a hidden pregnancy. Hopefully other teens and families will learn from this story that honesty and openness about pregnancy are important—while everything turned out well, this is a cautionary tale that could have had a very different ending. What do you think? [CNN]
