Keep It in Mind

"I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and gosh darn it, people like me."

Remember that line from the Stuart Smalley skits on "Saturday Night Live?" You may laugh a little when you hear poor Stuart recite that phrase into a mirror (occasionally with superstars like Michael Jordan), but daily affirmations really do work!

An affirmation is a phrase you repeat every day that represents the goal you’re trying to achieve. Reciting it or writing it reminds you of what you’re trying to accomplish and helps you to recommit to it every day. Think of an affirmation about being happier that best suits you. Start your affirmation the phrase with “I am.” It could be as simple as “I am great” or “I am a positive person," but whatever it is, consider it a reassuring phrase along your quest for happier living.

Let the idea of being happier take root in your mind! Every morning for the next 30 days when you wake up, say your affirmation aloud while giving the meaning your full attention. Really believe the words you’re saying. Because you are good enough and smart enough, and gosh darn it, you deserve to be happy!

Very helpful. Affirmations counteract negative thoughts.
